Name: Anisia Stepanova Zaytseva Alignment: St. Petersburg Neutral Birthday: 1.12.67 Age: 31 Special powers: Mutagenesis - Anisia can alter an organism's genetic structure. As she's not really aware of it, these mutations are generally random and small scale. She's managed to produce more coherent results accidentally, though, by sheer force of will. It's easiest to do to single-celled organisms such as bacteria and viruses, followed by plants, and animals are very difficult to do - she can't affect humans.
History
Anisia, also known as Anya, was born to Stepan and Natalia Zaytseva on January 12th, 1967, in a suburb of Moscow. The family, while not rich, was well-off enough that money was never a serious issue, and as such, Anisia had a fairly content childhood. Her father was staunchly traditional, and both Anisia and her older brother, Pavel, were raised in the Russian Orthodox Church. She, however, was never quite content to accept things on faith, and constantly questioned everything - her father's traditions, the Church, the world around her. She fell in love with science at a young age, as it offered a way to find the answers she wanted, and excelled in it at school. As she grew older, she drifted farther and farther away from her father's beliefs, although she continued to attend church with the rest of her family in high school. When she became a university student, though, she stopped, which lead to a massive argument between her and her father, largely over religion, but also over her chosen path of study. This culminated in her father telling her to get out of his house and never come back, and Anisia, being utterly stubborn, did so. She still sees and corresponds with her mother and brother. Her powers first became active during her second year of university. At first, Anisia didn't consider this anything out of the ordinary - she, and everyone else, just thought she had a particular talent for producing useful mutations in laboratory cultures. However, as she got older, the effects became stronger, and more obvious incidences occurred - an office plant she particularly hated shriveling up and dying in a couple hours, house plants she had been given spontaneously changing flower-color to match what she liked best, a roommate's cat who had previously been dying of cancer somehow getting better. These events somewhat unnerved her, and while she tried to brush them off as mere coincidences, that there must be a logical explanation, she couldn't help but sense deep down inside that something strange was going on. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Moscow State University, and then relocated to St. Petersburg for a change of scenery, as well as to put some distance between herself and her family, and completed her Candidate of Science degree in genetics at Saint-Petersburg State University. She currently works at Saint-Petersburg State University, teaching microbiology and genetics courses and doing research at the Research Institute of Biology.
Personality
Anisia's most prominent personality trait is her stubbornness - she has a great deal of trouble ever admitting she's wrong, even when provided proof of it, and she's ruined a lot of relationships this way. At the same time, though, her stubborness sometimes serves her well in such a male-dominated field - she refuses to back down and submit to condescending co-workers. She tries to look at things from a logical standpoint, believing that science has the answers to everything, but inside, she still wrestles some with the logic of science compared to her more traditional upbringing. Still, as long as you don't try to argue with her, Anisia is generally pretty friendly. She's not exactly the most outgoing person in the world, but she does enjoy the company of others, both in the lab and outside of it. She has a dry sense of humor, which often makes its way into her lectures. She enjoys biking, and usually rides from her small apartment to the lab when the weather is nice enough (and 'nice enough' by her standards is usually anything above freezing).
Appearance
Anisia is of fairly average height and build, with a bit of muscle from all the biking she does. Her face is similarly plain - not unattractive, but not unusually beautiful, either. She has dark blonde hair that's just below chin-length, and many times is pulled or clipped back to keep it out of her face while she's doing lab-work. Her clothing tends to emphasize comfort over style, and tends to mostly be in neutrals and earth-tones in simple cuts - she feels she has better things to worry about than whether her shirt matches her pants properly. At first glance, she seems a little too serious for her own good, but she's quick to open up and laugh or smile, and can get quite animated when lecturing or discussing her work.
